Dr. Tsutae Den Nagata appointed new director-general of EFPIA Japan

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM and TOKYO, JAPAN -- March 1, 2007 -- The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) today announced the appointment of Tsutae Den Nagata, MD, PhD, FFPM as the new Director-General of EFPIA Japan effective March 1st, 2007.

EFPIA permanent representation in Japan was established in April 2002 to promote the interests of the European pharmaceutical industry in Japan and facilitate dialogue with Japanese authorities with a view to improving the health status of the Japanese citizens.

EFPIA Japan consists of 26 member companies, and carries out its activities through five committees, namely, the Technical Committee, the Pricing and Economics Committee, the Public Relations Committee, the Intellectual Property, Legal & Corporate Ethics Committee, and the Vaccine Committee, in order to examine, propose and clarify issues related to the pharmaceutical industry. EFPIA Japan member companies generated more than 20% of total ethical pharmaceutical sales in 2006, and 35% of new drug approvals in Japan in the past three years.
