  • Sarepta Therapeutics plans to open the first phase of its Gene Therapy Center of Excellence in Ohio in spring 2019, Columbus Business First reported Tuesday.

  • The site has an estimated size of 85 000 square feet.

  • The news comes after Sarepta recently unveiled clinical trial results for four boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who were treated with microdystrophin gene therapy, for which the company hopes to win FDA approval in 2020.

  • "It's incumbent on us to get into our approval trial as soon as we possibly can…and bring this to the community as fast as possible," commented Sarepta CEO Doug Ingram, adding "it's all hands on deck to bring this program forward."
