Walgreens to tackle health-care costs with Alphabet's Verily - (CNBC via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Walgreens Boots Alliance has partnered with Alphabet's Verily life sciences unit to improve outcomes for patients with chronic conditions, CNBC reported.

  • The collaboration, which will include a focus on treatment adherence, will increase access to Verily's technology at Walgreens' pharmacies.

  • "The continued rise in chronic diseases today can be costly to patients as well as to our healthcare system," commented Walgreens CEO Stefano Pessina, adding "working with Verily, we'll look at how we can best support integrated and value-based care to meet our patients' needs, as well as opportunities to address other chronic conditions over time."

  • Meanwhile, Verily CEO Andrew Conrad said the partnership will provide the company "the opportunity to jointly tackle real-world issues that significantly impact the health of individuals and communities."

  • In addition, Onduo, Verily's diabetes company, will work with Walgreens to provide a virtual solution for Walgreens' employees and their families.
