Microrobots could one day deliver drugs inside the body - (SwissInfo via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Researchers writing in the journal Science Advances say they have developed highly flexible biocompatible microrobots that could one day potentially be swallowed to deliver drugs directly to diseased tissue, as reported by SwissInfo.

  • "Nature has evolved a multitude of microorganisms that change shape as their environmental conditions change. This basic principle inspired our microrobot design," explained researcher Bradley Nelson.

  • "The key challenge for us was to develop the physics that describe the types of changes we were interested in, and then to integrate this with new fabrication technologies," Nelson added.

  • The robots could "revolutionise" targeted drug delivery, according to the Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, which took part in the work.
