'First of its kind' treatment for psoriasis born in China - (China Daily via NewsPoints Desk)

  • The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology said Tianjin Pharmaceutical's Benvitimod was approved by the National Medical Products Administration to treat mild-to-moderate psoriasis, reported China Daily.

  • Results from a Phase III trial showed that Benvitimod has the same and even better curative effect as Calcipotriol, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology. 

  • Further, there were no systemic adverse reactions in the study, and Benvitimod also has a rapid onset of effect and long duration of action, as well as low recurrence rates when patients stop using the medicine, the news source said. 

  • The introduction of "China-made" Benvitimod highlights the fast development of an innovation-driven bio-pharmaceutical industry, commented Song Ruilin, executive president of the China Pharmaceutical Innovation and Research Development Association.
