US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price said that reducing drug prices remains a key goal for President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported Friday.
Price informed the Senate Finance Committee that Trump asked HHS for recommendations on policies that would reduce drug costs.
"It's an absolute priority and we look forward to working with anyone who's interested in holding down or bringing down drug prices for the American people," Price remarked.
Earlier this week, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb revealed that the FDA is examining strategies to accelerate the review of generic drug applications for products for which there are less than three competitors on the market.
Meanwhile, Price declined to clarify whether the administration will fund cost-sharing reduction payments to insurers to lower healthcare expenses for low-income citizens.
