US presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar unveiled a plan seeking to lower drug prices for seniors one day after the administration of President Donald Trump withdrew its drug cost plan, as reported NASDAQ Friday.
Klobuchar's proposal would permit the government to negotiate Medicare Part D costs.
Klobuchar's plan also seeks to increase investment in the development of treatments for Alzheimer's disease.
Senator Bernie Sanders, who is also running for president, has called for a complete government takeover of the national healthcare system.
Meanwhile, the plan abandoned by the Trump administration would have required pharmacy benefit managers to provide rebates directly to Medicare patients.
