Biotech Dept Set to Work on Vaccines - (The Economic Times via NewsPoints Desk)

  • India's Department of Biotechnology (DBT) said it is partnering with the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness and Innovations (CEPI) to fund development of vaccines for COVID-19, reported The Economic Times.

  • "We will be providing top-up funding for companies in India who apply for the CEPI call and also give access to our larger ecosystem and networks," DBT secretary Renu Swarup said, adding that the funding would be given on a case by case basis.

  • Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) is set to lay down a roadmap to accelerate R&D to fight the outbreak, with Swarup saying "we have already developed our strategy, and this will be in line with the WHO blueprint."

  • According to the news source, India has sent its scientists to a WHO forum, and will present its three strategies which are partnering with CEPI for vaccines.
