South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety made an emergency decision to allow the use of Gilead Sciences’ remdesivir to treat COVID-19, as reported in the Korea Times.
Although the country hasn’t completed clinical tests of the drug, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requested the ministry allow imports of the therapy. The ministry said it used its special measures procedure that permits imports of unauthorized substances under certain circumstances.
Officials said South Korea will hold discussions with Gilead soon to arrange the first shipment of its imports.
