Niclosamide removes coronavirus in ferret in 3 days: Daewoong - (The Korea Herald via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Daewoong Pharmaceutical and its subsidiary Daewoong Therapeutics said DWRX2003 (niclosamide) was able to remove the SARS-CoV-2 virus in a ferret’s lungs in three days, reported The Korea Herald.

  • Institut Pasteur Korea licensed niclosamide, a medicine used to treat tapeworms in animals, to Daewoong Therapeutics.

  • According to industry experts, since niclosamide is not absorbed well in the human body, researchers will need to identify the correct way to administer the drug.

  • Daewoong Pharmaceutical said it plans to apply for a Phase I trial in Korea in July to test the toxicity of DWRX2003 in humans.
