The US Health and Human Services (HHS) department has allocated more than 11,000 courses of Gilead Sciences' remdesivir to the four states now being hardest hit by COVID-19, as reported in the Financial Post.
The antiviral is being distributed to Texas, Florida, California and Arizona on July 10 and July 13, according to a HHS website.
HHS said that other states in the US will also receive the drug on July 13.
The department has said Gilead will send most of its supply of remdesivir to the US this summer, with the agency and states set to manage allocation to US hospitals until the end of September.
It expects to have more than 94,000 treatment courses to distribute in July.
