Egypt’s health ministry announced it has begun preparing to manufacture a COVID-19 vaccine in cooperation with the Chinese government, reported Egypt Independent.
Health Minister Hala Zayed chaired a meeting at the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) to inspect the readiness of its factories and production lines to begin producing the vaccine.
At the meeting, Zayed discussed the amount of doses needed to be produced in order to fulfill demand in Egypt and export to other African countries.
A spokesperson said the minister stressed the importance of increasing the factory’s production capacity and discussed the possibility of involving foreign companies with VACSERA’s production process, in order to exchange experience to grant Egypt a lead in vaccine production.
