(Washington, D.C.) — The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) today issued 21 policy solutions supported by America's pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) aimed at reducing prescription drug costs for patients and health plan sponsors.
PBMs administer prescription drug plans for more than 266 million Americans with health coverage through employers, health insurers, labor unions, Medicare and Medicaid. PBMs are the only member of the prescription drug supply and payor chain working to lower drug costs.
"These policies should be a guide for the Biden Administration and the new Congress to enact effective solutions that will increase competition to reduce prescription drug costs for patients," said PCMA President and CEO JC Scott. "PBMs have an established record of negotiating with manufacturers to reduce drug costs for patients, and we urge policymakers to focus on getting more competition into the market. We look forward to working with the new Administration and Congress."
