Saudi Arabia OKs AstraZeneca Shot as It Aims to Ramp Up Program - (Bloomberg via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Saudi Arabia has approved the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, reported Bloomberg.

  • Hani Jokhdar, deputy minister for public health, said Thursday that the kingdom has the capacity to administer 200,000 vaccinations a day and aims to secure enough supply to ramp up its immunization program.

  • "We will be able to deliver 1.4 million doses every week," Jokhdar said, adding that the kingdom planned to roll out AstraZeneca’s vaccine "this weekend."

  • The Saudi Food and Drug Authority previously approved Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine.
