Uganda to import more AstraZeneca vaccines in May amidst new COVID-19 variants - (Xinhua via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Uganda will import 5 million doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine next month after the discovery of new variants in the country, as reported Xinhua.

  • President Yoweri Museveni has said the vaccines will be used to vaccinate at least 80% of the 5.5 million elderly and people below 50 years, with underlying medical conditions that are at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

  • Henry Mwebesa, director general of Health Services, recently said Uganda is scheduled to receive around 2 million more doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccines in May through the COVAX facility.
