Roche passes on Budget gain, cuts life-saving drug prices - (The Economic Times via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Roche has cut the price of its rheumatoid arthritis drug Actemra in India effective August 1 after the government announced a reduction in customs duty to 11 percent for life saving drugs, The Economic Times reported Monday.
  • The company has said the price changes will be applicable to new and existing stock.
  • Roche has also decided to reduce the price of Valcyte, which is used to treat and prevent cytomegalovirus infections, by 35 percent following the duty changes.
  • The company said it plans to use the savings from the duty cuts to expand its cost-assistance access programme in the country.
